Brazil watch: World Cup power plan, Itaipu approval, wind test
Brazil's power distributors have been given until January 15 to present maintenance and operation plans for next year's FIFA World Cup, sector regulator Aneel has announced.
The ruling applies to utilities operating in the country's 12 World Cup host cities, according to federal gazette Diário Oficial da União.
They include Ame, Ceb, Cemig (NYSE: CIG), Cemat, Coelba, Celpe, Coelce, Cosern, Ceee-D, Copel, Eletropaulo and Light.

The administrative board of Itaipu Binacional has authorized the company's 2014 budget and tariff, the generator said in a statement.
"We approved various matters linked to the economic, financial and technical management of Itaipu," spokesperson Osvaldo Román Romei said. "In doing so we have sought a perfect balance between income and expenditure."
No further details were given by the company, which operates the 14GW hydroelectric plant on the Brazil-Paraguay border.

And Aneel has authorized the start of testing of seven generating units at the 30MW Fleixeiras wind farm, in the northeastern state of Ceará.
The generators to be tested have a combined installed capacity of 18.46MW, according to Diário Oficial da União.
"Commercial operations may only begin after the conclusion of testing and upon the submission of the relevant documents," Aneel said.
