Colombian state-run oil company Ecopetrol started up a 16MW liquid petroleum gas-powered thermoelectric plant to supply electricity to the adjacent Castilla and Acacías oilfields.
The plant is Colombia's first industrial scale LPG project to come online, a company release said.
The plant took 4.5 months to build and boasts an installed capacity of 16MW, with an additional 4MW expected in 1Q15.
The announcement follows Ecopetrol's launch of a water treatment facility that will increase oil production at Castilla by up to 30,000b/d from a Q3 average of 104,000b/d.
