Developers seek 531MW Brazil solar expansion

Brazilian renewable energy developers have sought permission for 18 new solar plants totaling 531MW of installed capacity.

The projects are located in the states of Bahia, São Paulo and Minas Gerais, federal gazette Diário Oficial da União reported on Monday.

São Paulo-based Solatio Gestão de Projetos Solares had the most requests with proposals totaling 270MW in the cities of Guaimbé, Dracena and Vazante.

Also in Vazante, Belo Horizonte-based Minas Serviços sought permission for a 30MW photovoltaic plant.

Other companies to submit solar proposals were Universos Serviços, Barcelona Serviços and Solyes Geradora de Energia.

The requests follow a series of measures announced by Brazilian power regulator Aneel to encourage solar development.

According to government data, solar power comprises less than 0.01% of Brazil's grid.
