Enel begins construction of new Mexico wind farm
Enel Green Power México (EGPM) has begun construction of the 200MW La Amistad wind farm in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila.
Anchored by a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), the farm will cost around US$300mn and generate over 750 GWh/y, equivalent to the annual consumption needs of around 450,000 households, while avoiding CO2 emissions of some 435,000t/y, the company said in a press release.
"The construction of Amistad is a further step towards the consolidation of our position as a leading player in the Mexican renewable market," EGPM's chief executive Paolo Romanacci said.

Last October, EGPM signed a 10-year PPA with HSBC to supply electricity to the bank's corporate offices and more than 1,100 branches, beginning in 2H17, from the company's 200MW Dominica wind farm (pictured) in San Luis Potosí state. The agreement involves annual generation of 50GWh, which is almost half of the bank's corporate offices and branches' electricity consumption.
EGPM is the largest renewables operator in Mexico in terms of installed capacity and project portfolio. It operates 728MW of installed capacity, of which 675MW is wind power and 53MW hydropower. The company is currently building the 129MW Palo Alto wind farm in Jalisco state and the 100MW Vientos del Altiplano farm in Zacatecas.
In addition, EGPM is set to begin construction of three solar PV projects with total capacity of around 1GW: the Villanueva I and Villanueva III parks, both also located in Coahuila, with combined installed capacity of 754MW, the 238MW Don José wind farm in Guanajuato state, and the 93MW Salitrillos wind farm in Tamaulipas.
