Italy's Enel Green Power completed solar projects in Chile totaling investment of US$240mn and capacity of 136MW, all of which will supply the central SIC grid.

The projects are the 60MW Lalackama in Antofagasta region (II), the 40MW Chañares in Atacama region (III) and the bringing online of the final 4MW of the 36MW Diego de Almagro solar park in Atacama, the firm said in a release.

Lalackama was completed for US$110mn and will generate approximately 160GWh/y, equivalent to the consumption needs of some 90,000 households.

Chañares and Diego de Almagro will generate 94GWh/y and 80GWh/y, respectively. Investment at Chañares totaled US$70mn and some US$60mn was spent at Diego de Almagro, according to the release.

The three plants will cut atmospheric emissions by a combined 209,000t of C02, Enel said.

Of Chile's 1.91GW non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) installed capacity at end-October, solar accounted for 11.7%, according to BNamericas stats.
