IDB opens Venezuelan hydro engineering call

Firms have until October 21 to express interest in an engineering services tender for Venezuela's largest hydroelectric plant, Simón Bolívar, known locally as Guri.

The Inter-American Development Bank is providing financing for the rehabilitation of unit 1-6 in Guri's first generator housing.

Works include evaluating the existing system, aiding in the design of work plans, revising project plans, revising equipment design plans, assisting with project documentation and helping to create system testing protocols, according to IDB documents.

Eligible firms must have participated in one of the following: a multidisciplinary engineering project of US$20mn or more in the last 15 years; a hydroelectric construction or rehabilitation project of 50MW or more in the last 15 years; a hydroelectric structure project of 50MW or more in the last 15 years; designing generators for a hydroelectric plant of 50MW or more in the last 25 years; or the construction or rehabilitation of an electrical substation of 115kV or more in the last 15 years.
