Mexico's CFE to launch 16 tenders worth US$5bn

Mexico's state power utility CFE will launch tenders for 16 infrastructure projects worth US$4.9bn, CFE chief executive Enrique Ochoa Reza announced on Monday.

The projects cover the entire chain of electric power generation and distribution services, including two gas pipelines and two pipeline sections, three co-generation plants, the refitting of a thermoelectric plant, three transmission lines and five contracts aimed at upgrading the country's electricity distribution grid.

"CFE's main aim is to reduce electricity generation costs and offer better transmission and distribution services nationwide by... developing infrastructure," Ochoa Reza was quoted as saying by local daily Exelsior during the presentation of the tenders on Monday.
