Panama's plans for 4th transmission line hit snag
With the bidding deadline little more than a month away to build Panama's fourth power transmission line, the planned dispatch infrastructure has yet to convince all stakeholders.
Following a project update by state power transmission Etesa to the national assembly's indigenous affairs committee, certain members of the Ngäbe Buglé indigenous reserve reiterated their opposition, and the idea of holding a referendum was proposed.
The committee has issued a resolution to continue related hearings and recommended that a referendum be held.
In addition, a special independent committee was established comprised of civic and educational organizations, among others, to weigh public opinion from the Ngábe indigenous communities on the transmission line.
After publishing reference terms, Etesa held a site visit (pictured) for the five prequalified groups following an information meeting, the minutes of which were just released and are available here, in Spanish.
