Peru reveals solar call bidders

Two groups qualified in Peru's first auction to provide and operate photovoltaic systems for up to 500,000 users in offgrid rural and isolated zones.

The qualifiers for the 15-year contracts are Consorcio Juan Galindo Norte (Norte Renovables-Juan Galindo SLU) and Ergon Peru, according to energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin.

The participants tabled bids for zones Centro and Sur. Ergon also looks to supply zone Norte.

Norte covers regions Amazonas, Áncash, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Loreto, Piura, San Martín and Tumbes; Centro spans Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Ica, Lima, Junín, Pasco and Ucayali; and Sur covers Apurímac, Arequipa, Cusco, Madre de Dios, Moquegua, Puno and Tacna.

Awarding is scheduled for next month and the process is due to close in March. An initial 2,000 systems must begin commercial operations next August and all systems must be in place by end-2018.

The call follows three renewable energy auctions. Energy and mines minister Eleodoro Mayorga announced in recent days plans for a new wind power auction.
