Peru watch: Bond issues, hydro concession, transmission call

Peru's largest power distributor Luz del Sur issued bonds for 143mn soles (US$50mn), the company said in a filing with securities regulator SMV.

Demand for the A series bonds, the third issue of the utility's third corporate bond program, was 288mn soles. The bonds have a 15-year term at a 6.875% interest rate.

In a separate SMV filing, utility Edelnor announced it raised 80mn soles from a bond placement, the second issue of A series bonds from a fifth corporate bond program.

Demand for the 10-year bonds reached 199mn soles. The interest rate is 6.34375%.


The energy and mines ministry granted Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Río Baños a definitive concession for the 20MW Rucuy hydro project, planned for Pacaraos district in Lima region.


Private investment promotion agency ProInversión extended to Friday the deadline to pay the participation fee and submit qualification documents for transmission concession Nueva Lurín.

Qualifiers will be announced October 7. The 220kV project aims to reinforce transmission infrastructure in Lima and Puno regions.

Bidding also is underway for 220kV transmission concessions Azángaro-Juliaca-Puno and Industriales-Córpac.

Five 220kV transmission projects totaling 1,606km are scheduled to begin commercial operations in Peru by early 2019.
