Roundup: AEE restructure, Corpoelec thermo, Itaipu dispatch

Puerto Rican power utility AEE signed a contract with AlixPartners under an agreement with creditors as part of efforts to improve operations and finances.

Earlier this month, AEE's board named AlixPartners' Lisa Donahue to head the utility's restructuring, which includes participation of FTI Consulting. The latter will present a report in November, AEE said in a statement.

Venezuelan state power company Corpoelec reported that unit 32 at Margarita island's Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi power plant, also known as Termoisla, now runs on natural gas.

The 13.4MW unit had run on diesel and had been offline since May. Units 21, 22, 23 and 34 also have been converted to gas.


Itaipu Binacional, which operates the Itaipu hydroelectric dam on the Brazil-Paraguay border, announced completion of an expansion project at the 500kV "right margin" substation.

Four 500kV lines now connect the substation to the power complex to increase dispatch capacity to Paraguay.
