Solar Wind Energy Tower targets Mexico

US-based renewable energy technology firm Solar Wind Energy Tower has signed a letter of understanding with a landowner in Sonora state as part of its plans to build a downdraft tower project in Mexico.

The 505ha site is in San Luis Río Colorado, near the site of the company's solar wind downdraft tower project in San Luis, Arizona, on the US-Mexican border, which is slated to enter operations in 2018.

The company says its towers "harness the natural power of a downdraft created when water is introduced to hot dry air within the confines" of the tower's structure.
