Transmission, distribution top Puerto Rico budget

Transmission and distribution account for 56% of Puerto Rican power utility AEE's US$245mn fiscal 2014-15 recommended capital improvement program.

Generation represents 33% and other, 11% of the budget, which bonds from a 2013 issue would finance, according to company board information.

The fiscal 2014-15 recommended budget totals US$4.86bn, of which US$3.78bn is for O&M; US$812mn for depreciation, interest and other and US$264mn for contribution in lieu of taxes and subsidies.

Fuel accounts for 58.9% of O&M, with residual purchases totaling US$1.31bn, natural gas US$528mn and light distillate US$384mn. AEE aims to reduce its fuel bill by converting to natural gas and increasing the contribution of renewables.

Electricity purchases reach US$872mn of O&M, salaries US$468mn and other US$216mn.

Forecast generation in the period hit 21TWh, of which 7.69TWh is purchased energy from EcoEléctrica (50.8%), AES (43.7%) and renewables (5.5%).

Forecast sales reached 17.4TWh, of which commercial offtake accounted for 49%, residential 35%, industrial 14%, and agriculture and public lighting 2%.
