Uruguay watch: IDB reviews solar, wind loans

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is reviewing financing requests for three renewable energy projects in Uruguay.

Sky Solar Holdings asked for two loans – one for up to US$26.2mn and the other for up to US$24.8mn – for PV projects in Paysandú department, according to bank documents. The first project, Casablanca, consists of four plants totaling 38.3MW, while the Giacote project involves construction of two plants totaling 36MW.

Sky Solar secured 32-year PPAs for each with state power utility UTE.

The bank is also considering a loan of up to US$46.4mn to Cobra Ingeniería Uruguay for the 48.6MW Kiyu wind farm in San José department.
