Brazil's Eletrobras (NYSE: EBR) looks to invest 60.8bn reais (US$26.9bn) through 2018 in new power generation plants and transmission lines.

The company made the announcement in a filing to securities regulator CVM after the board approved the plan.

The energy giant aims to add 13.4GW installed capacity and 19,200km of transmission lines in the period. The expansion also targets opportunities outside the country, such as the 50% acquisition of Uruguay wind developer Rouar.

Eletrobras also reported it completed a study of alternatives to restructure its distribution business.

The plan, in Portuguese, is available here.

In related news, power regulator Aneel authorized Eletrobras to acquire a controlling stake in distribution utility Celg Distribuição.
