Four sections of US$500mn Bogotá road project to be put out to tender this month

Colombia’s urban development institute (IDU) will put out to tender this month four sections of the 2.24tn-peso (US$500mn) Calle 13 urban road project in Bogotá.

The work will be divided into five sections. The first section has a cost of 530bn pesos plus 30bn for supervision.

The state-owned IDU has already published the pre-specifications for the first stretch that consists of the Aranda overpass intersection, on which construction should begin next August and take 30 months.

IDU head Diego Sánchez reported that another three sections of Calle 13, corresponding the corridor between 50th avenue and the Bogotá River, will be put out to tender in the third week of November, and the stretch known as Portal Patio in the first quarter of 2023.

It is estimated that construction of Calle 13 would generate 64,869 direct and indirect jobs and of these 15,794 would correspond to section one.

The 11km Calle 13 corridor will have 10 lanes: four for general traffic in each direction and one exclusive lane in each direction for buses ofthe TransMilenio mass transit network. It will have 14 stations that include a main station and a workshop with capacity for 124 ‘bendy’ clean technology buses.
