Panama, September 22, 2021. The National Energy Council of El Salvador in coordination with the National Energy Secretariat of Panama, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the cooperation granted by EUROCLIMA +, carried out the first meeting for the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Competency Certification process in Panama City.

The project channeled in both countries will allow innovation in the region based on the "Certification of Professionals and the Accreditation of Companies in Energy Efficiency", in the same way it will allow to respond to the current needs of the labor markets that require having suitable experts to carry out consulting activities; provide companies with a registry of consultants with high standards; advise and carry out energy efficiency consulting activities.

The activity was attended by the National Secretary of Energy, Jorge Rivera Staff, the Representative of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Francisco Mola, AECID representatives in Panama, as well as a delegation of Salvadoran professionals who presented the project's work plan, progress and rapprochement with accreditation and control bodies of the Panamanian energy sector.

During the meeting, the Secretary of Energy of Panama, Jorge Rivera Staff assured that the efforts made must become incentives for future work and a boost for business entrepreneurship and a source of economic development for both nations.

The Executive Secretary of CNE, Salvador Handal, sent a message to the sectors present in the activity such as universities, unions, professionals, companies demanding energy efficiency services and skills trainers, in order to promote energy demand through efficiency measures energy, smart cities and sustainable mobility that lead the economy to another stage of development.

The project is expected to promote energy efficiency actions and impact on the reduction of energy costs by up to 7% for companies. The workshops will discuss the unification of the study program under the approach of the ISO or specific labor competencies standards, in order to raise the international recognition of competencies in energy efficiency at the level of the Central American region.
