Electrical-electronics industry concerned about truckers' strike
The Brazilian electrical-electronics industry is worried about the impact of the general truckers' strike and roadblocks erected across the country on the sector.
In a statement, the industry association Abinee expressed concern about the work stoppage, which entered its fifth day on Friday, and called for "a quick solution in order to avoid further damage to the industry and to society."
Abinee said in a statement that it "is following the development of the negotiations and hopes for an understanding so that the situation can return to normal."
At the same time, the association criticized the initiative of the government to condition lowering taxes on freight and fuel to congressional approval of a payroll tax reinstatement bill affecting 28 sectors, including electronics. The bill was passed in the lower house on Wednesday.
"The measure will lead to a loss of competitiveness in the industrial sector, limiting the already hamstrung process of resumption of economic activity and employment," added Abinee
TRANSPORT APPS
The strike is also generating effects in the transport apps segment, particularly freight applications that connect drivers to clients, such as CargoX, TruckPad and PraCaminhão. Most of these companies, however, still support the movement.
According to MobileTime, CargoX CEO Federico Vegas, even though his company's business is being hit by the strike, it supports the truckers, as the executive says drivers are being affected by the steady increases in fuel prices.
CargoX said that it was unable to make 2,000 shipments between Monday and Wednesday this week because of the action.
TruckPad launched a hashtag in support of the strike, while PraCaminhão sided with the strikers' claims as it expects a swift resolution from the government.
