Brazil switched off analog TV in Pernambuco state capital Recife and 14 municipalities in its metropolitan region.
According to telecom regulator Anatel, 92% of the 1.26mn households that were affected by the blackout were already receiving the digital signal. The minimum rate to meet analog shutdown conditions per region is 90%, with a margin of error of three percentage points.
Scheduled for September, the next state capitals and surrounding municipalities in line are Fortaleza and Salvador. The final date for the analog blackout in Brazil's main localities is December 5, 2018.
