Movistar leads complaints in Peru
Telefónica del Peru unit Movistar led complaints regarding telecoms services in 2018.
According to telecoms regulator Osiptel, consumers filed 3.05mn complaints last year, mostly about billing, quality of service and veracity of information.
Osiptel president Rafael Schwarz said consumers are feeling more empowered to exercise their rights when contracting and evaluating a service.
Movistar, the largest telco in terms of market share, received 2.17mn complaints in 2018, or 71% of the total, followed by Claro (595,093, 19%), Entel (168,273, 6%), Bitel (48,221, 2%) and others 2%.
Some 60% of complaints were about mobile telephony, while 76% were about mobile telephony, internet and pay TV.
Movistar accounted for 61% of complaints about mobile telephony and 87% of complaints about internet.
In 2018, Movistar held a 38% market share of the mobile broadband market followed by Claro (33%), Entel (15%) and Bitel (14%).
In terms of mobile subscribers, Movistar led with 37%, followed by Claro (29%), Entel (19%) and Bitel (15%).
In pay TV, Movistar was the leader with 65%, followed by DirecTV (16%), and Claro (8%).
