Telefónica Perú reaches 1mn Movistar Play users, eyes Netflix
Telefónica del Perú has reached the 1mn user milestone for its Movistar Play OTT platform two years after launch and is planning to incorporate Netflix, HBO, Fox and other media platforms in 2019, local daily El Comercio reported.
The service offers live and on-demand content and is available on smart TVs, PCs and mobile devices.
More than 50% of the over 1mn registered users consume different content live and video on-demand with approximately 3.3mn hours consumed to date, Movistar Peru's marketing director Luis Acuña said.
Though its speeds have fallen in recent months, Peru is still one of Latin America's leaders in 4G coverage, according to an August report from consulting company Open Signal.
Entel and Movistar lead the speed race, clocking 17.2Mbps and 17.0Mbps, respectively.
While Claro and Movistar have been making inroads in prepaid subscriptions in recent months, Entel and Bitel have been faring better in the postpaid segment.
