Telmex to halve fixed to mobile line call rate
Mexican telecom watchdog IFT authorized América Móvil's fixed-line unit Telmex to implement a 30% reduction in the 'calling party pays' customer rate effective August 1.
Telmex's new rate for calls made from fixed to mobile lines under the calling party pays scheme will decline to 0.473 pesos (US$0.025) per minute from the current 0.676, before applicable taxes.
In a press release, IFT announced additional 15% reductions in 2017 and 2018, when the reate should drop to 0.342. Overall, the current tariff will drop nearly 50%, benefitting the 3mn users of fixed telephony services without a plan covering the calling party pays rate.
América Móvil operates about 70% of Mexico's fixed and mobile phone lines.
