Brazil proposes US$314mn port works bill

Brazil proposed a bill that includes 745mn reais (US$314mn) in investment for marine port infrastructure improvements in 2015 under the PAC growth acceleration plan, according to federal government documents.

A total of 694mn reais would go toward construction projects in seven states.

The remaining 51mn reais would pay for management and maintenance works for federal and state entities. The funding would be used for general administration and IT support and in other areas.

Regarding the construction projects, the most investment would be made in São Paulo state port authority Codesp, with 213mn reais in planned works. It is followed by Rio de Janeiro state port authority CDRJ with 164mn reais, Bahia port authority Codeba with 130mn reais, and Espírito Santo port authority Codesa which has 83mn reais in proposed works.

The three remaining port authorities with investment plans are Pará's CDP, Rio Grande do Norte's Codern, and Ceará's CDN. If the bill is passed, they would be awarded 65mn reais, 48.5mn reais, and 41.1mn reais, respectively, the documents said.

The port infrastructure budget proposal is part of PAC's overall 2015 infrastructure budget of 64.9bn reais and must be approved by December.
