Brazil's Anac faces late payments for Viracopos airport
Brazil's civil aviation agency,ANAC is reportedly facing late payments by the concessionaire of Viracopos airport.
ANAC executed the surety bond for Viracopos Airport, in Campinas city, for non-payment of concession rights from last year. The fixed portion is at 174mn (US$$55.76mn), without interest and a fine, according to O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper. It did not unveil the name of the insurance company providing the surety.
The airport is administered by a concessionaire called Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos, composed by infrastructure company Triunfo Participações e Investimento (TPI), UTC engineering, Egis and government airport operator Infraero.
Triunfo and UTC are both going through tough times, with Triunfo planning to sell assets to focus on its core business as a highway operator, while UTC requested a bankruptcy protection, as it faced a decline in contracts due to scrutiny from Lava Jato probe.
The airport concession was obtained in an auction at the end of 2012. Under the bidding rules, the winning offer would be paid in annual installments In addition to this payment, the companies also committed to pay a percentage of annual revenues from the concession.
Along with 2016 obligations, payments for this year are also running late, said the report.
