INFRASTRUCTURE: The week in 10 stories
ARGENTINA
The government will tender seven national routes amounting to 5,500km of highways under a plan that entails 70bn pesos (US$4.4bn) in investment, using public-private partnerships.
Meanwhile, US$150mn will be invested in the construction of a new rail viaduct in Buenos Aires, which is set to connect the Belgrano Sur rail service with Constitución station.
National highway department DNV and Spanish toll road operator Abertis signed an agreement to extend the concession contract the firm holds in the country until 2030.
BRAZIL
Local logistics and infrastructure provide Triunfo Participações will sell the 50% stake it owns in Terminais Portuários de Navegantes, a container port in Santa Catarina state, to Terminal Investment. The 1.3bn reais (US$395mn) transaction is part of the company's plan to reduce its debt.
HONDURAS
A total of US$1.3bn is being invested to develop infrastructure projects under public-private partnerships in the country, according to a report that analyzed seven public works initatives, five of which were PPPs.
MEXICO
The national security institute awarded a 25-year concession contract for the construction and operation of a hospital in Tapachula, a city in Chiapas state, to a consortium comprised of local companies Promotora y Desarrolladora Mexicana de Infraestructura and Infraestructura & Healthcare.
Meanwhile, Veracruz port authority opened bids for the construction of an agricultural bulk terminal - one of four facilities to be built as part of the port's 30bn-peso (US$1.65bn) expansion.
A former foreign minister told BNamericas that strengthening Mexico's port infrastructure is key to addressing any potential loss of trade which may accompany the imminent renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta).
PARAGUAY
Works on the US$520mn project to widen national routes 2 and 7 are set to begin in the next few weeks. Consortium Sacyr-Mota Engil-Ocho A will be responsible for carrying out the project.
PERU
The government is planning to invest 400mn soles (US$120mn) in infrastructure under a US$3bn reconstruction program for the Piura region, which was badly hit by floods earlier this year.
