Medellín readies tender for El Picacho cable car line

The Colombian city of Medellín is set to launch a tender for the El Picacho cable car line this month, while the local government continues to negotiate the portion of project funding that would come from the national government.

City mayor Federico Gutiérrez said that over the next few days details such the design and expected construction times will be published, Radio Caracol reported.

The project entails developing a 2.8km cable car line that will cross four districts of the city. This would allow the transportation of 3,680 users per hour, according to company Metro de Medellín.

It is estimated that the project will cost 280bn pesos (US$91mn), with the Medellín municipality approving 158bn pesos for the initiative. The amount that will come from the national government is still being debated, according to Caracol.
