Mexico reveals funding details for Monterrey metro line
Mexico's transport ministry SCT provided details on the financing for the construction of the third line of the metro system in the city of Monterrey.
A total of 600mn pesos (US$33.7mn) will be used for the first phase of the construction of the line's eight stations, which including building an elevated viaduct, service workshop, as well as supervision activities, among other works, SCT said in a notice published Friday in the official gazette.
The funds form part of a 1.2bn-peso financing that the SCT has earmarked for the project's completion.
The 600mn pesos were disbursed earlier this month which allowed the government of Nuevo León state to announced the winning bids for the construction of the metro stations.
The remainder of the funds is expected to be disbursed in early January.
Tenders for the construction of the line's service workshops are expected to be launched shortly.
Construction works on the stations and the workshops are expected to be finished by March of next year.
The works began in 2013 and were expected to be finished in 2015, but state budget constraints caused major delays. The project has reportedly passed the 70%-mark and the estimated completion date is now March 2018.
The 7.5km line will serve the greater Monterrey metropolitan area, which includes the municipalities of Monterrey, San Nicolás de los Garza, Guadalupe and Apodaca, moving some 280,000 users per day.
