Tender for Mexico City airport apron declared void
The tender for the contract to rehabilitate the Tango India apron of the Benito Juárez international airport in Mexico City and carry out complementary works has been declared void.
None of the 12 bids that were submitted to airport operator AICM met the requirements stated in the tender documents, according to information posted on government procurement website Compranet.
This decision cannot be appealed, according to the operator.
A total of seven individual firms and five consortiums had submitted bids for the contract on March 5.
Participants included local firms Tradeco Industrial, ICA Constructora, Jaguar Ingenieros Constructores and EPCCOR, among others.
The Mexican subsidiary of Portuguese firm Mota-Engil also took part, but its proposal was not reviewed because at 80.2mn pesos (US$4.1mn), it exceeded the maximum price set for the contract.
Of the other 11 technical offers that were evaluated, only two obtained high enough scores to make it to the economic evaluation stage of the tender.
The objective of the project was to make room to host more airplanes in order to deal with increasing demand. The works form part of the project to upgrade the existing airport under the plan to develop a three-airport system for Mexico City, which also includes the international airport serving Toluca, in Mexico state, and the future international airport to be built at the Santa Lucía military air base in Tecámac, also in Mexico state.
No information has been provided on when a new tender will be called.
