kölbi offers high-speed fiber optics to digital nomads in 800 locations in the country

This is an automated translation of the original Group ICE release published in Spanish.

Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) and its kölbi brand provide high-speed connectivity with its fiber optic network in more than 800 locations, in addition to bringing mobile internet to more than 11,000 points throughout the country, services that boost the arrival of digital nomads from all over the world.

With sustained growth, the ICE fiber network exceeds 30,000 kilometers installed. This infrastructure reaches strategic points such as Malpaís, Playas del Coco, Tamarindo, Flamingo, Nicoya, Jacó, Herradura, Puerto Viejo (Limón), Manuel Antonio, Santa Elena (Monteverde), Tortuguero and Santa Cruz.

“We are one of the most attractive destinations for the remote work market. For this reason, we continue to strengthen our internet connections outside the GAM, which is precisely where the areas most visited by this customer segment are located," said Luis Diego Abarca, ICE Telecommunications Manager.

For her part, Jacqueline González, director of Commercial Strategy at kölbi, pointed out this week at the Costa Rica Connected: Digital Nomads forum that “we're working to identify the needs of the tourism sector associated with this niche. We are facilitators of the economic development of the country, so that the market attracts tourists who enjoy stable and fast connections.”

The Costa Rica Connected forum is periodically organized by the Institute of Specialized Technologies and Training (INTEC) and brings together key actors on issues related to the telecommunications market, regulation and connectivity, among others.

Grupo ICE and kölbi participated in this space – for the first time – with contributions on fixed and mobile technologies for high-speed internet connectivity, available to foreign visitors who settle for long periods in the country to work remotely.

The expansion of ICE's 4G network – in addition to reaching more than 11,000 points – offers the best video experience, as well as the highest data upload and download speeds and the lowest latency, according to SUTEL.
