MINEM reactivates LPG Executive Board so that more Peruvians have access to clean fuels

This Minem release was published using machine translation.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reactivated the meetings of the LPG Executive Board, calling on representatives of the government and the private sector to join efforts and work so that more families use a clean fuel such as bottled LPG in their homes (balloon of gas), at a price accessible to their economies.

The activities of the LPG Executive Board were resumed in a session led by Minister Oscar Vera Gargurevich, who highlighted that the companies have joined the call, since they are strategic allies of MINEM to achieve the objectives set to make cheap gas be available to households.

Through this working group, the aim is to facilitate the closing of gaps in access to LPG, with the objective that families in vulnerable situations stop using firewood, dung or other polluting fuels in urban and rural areas, something that is registered in approximately 57% of households in extreme poverty, according to official figures.

For this reason, and although the number of beneficiaries of the LPG Discount Voucher of the FISE Energy Social Inclusion Fund has increased, granting a reduction of S/ 25 to vulnerable families in the purchase of a gas cylinder, the government is evaluating other mechanisms that allow more households to access this program.

At the meeting, the general director of Hydrocarbons of MINEM, Carlo De Los Santos, stated that the goal is to ensure that more than 1.5 million families in the country have access to cheap gas, and for this, formulas such as increasing the value of the GLP Discount Voucher from S/ 25 to S/ 43 in the districts with the highest poverty rates.

Additionally, it is being evaluated to increase the threshold to access the program, so that the LPG Discount Voucher reaches households with average electricity consumption of 98 kWh in the coast and jungle, and 48 kWh in the mountains, which would enable more than 600 thousand new families to access this important benefit.

At the meeting of the LPG Executive Board, which was held at the MINEM headquarters, representatives of the PCM, Osinergmin, FISE, the College of Engineers of Peru (CIP), the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE), Peruvian Society of Liquefied Gas (SPGL), Association of Gas Packaging Plants (ASEEG, among others.
