Codelco chairman injured by parcel bomb
Óscar Landerretche, the chairman of Chilean state copper giant Codelco, suffered minor injuries after a device sent to his home exploded on Friday evening.
Other family members also suffered minor injuries. The victims were treated at a local clinic and were released on Saturday.
The attack was condemned across the mining industry and Chilean society, with President Michelle Bachelet calling it unacceptable in a democracy.
An "eco-terrorist" group claimed responsibility for the incident on Saturday, accusing Landerretche and Codelco of "offenses against the Earth," local news outlet Radio Biobío reported.
There have been several low-level attacks in recent years by anarchist groups, including a 2014 blast outside a metro station that left several people injured.
The prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the incident and announced that it would label it as a terrorist attack, which allows prosecutors to pursue harsher punishments under Chile's anti-terrorist law.
Codelco is the world's largest copper producer.
