The mining secretariat of Argentina's production, labor and sustainable development ministry has put into operation a more modern and efficient geographic information system (GIS) and a unified online mining registry.
The system allows users to consult information about the mining sector directly, finding data related to mining properties, exploration permits, files and the legal status of permitting procedures, among other functions.
The online unified mining registry gathers information from the regions of Catamarca, La Rioja, Mendoza, Neuquén, Río Negro and Santa Cruz.
Mining secretary for Salta province Daniel Blasco said in a release from the regional government: "We are convinced that the incorporation of a registry into a single system provides transparency for the management of permits and will facilitate access to information from the mining sector in response to all users who require it."
Blasco pointed out that any user can access the system through the Argentine mining information center (CIMA) using the website cima.minem.gob.ar. It can also be accessed through the address: geoportal. idesa.gob.ar and selecting "Maps" or through WFS / WMS: http://www.idesa.gob.ar/geoservicios/.
