Codelco leads again the Corporate Transparency Index
Press Release from
Codelco
Santiago, October 12, 2017. For the second consecutive year, Codelco was ranked first as the most transparent institution in the Corporate Transparency Index (ITC) among 28 state-owned companies in the country. By exceeding 90 points (92.2), the Corporation is located within the companies with the best practices in transparency worldwide. In the study carried out by Business Intelligence, the copper company was also distinguished in the first position in the category of companies of the Productive Sector.
This ranking is done through a benchmarking in which ITC rescues the best practices of information published in the websites of companies at a global level and compares them with national ones. The materials analyzed cover financial information, sustainability issues, corporate governance, presentation and business, investor assistance, as well as the navigability tools offered to the user.
At the awards ceremony, Chairman Oscar Landerretche said that "this new recognition of the advances that this administration has made in transparency and probity is proof that the changes we have incorporated have results and are evaluated in a positive way by different organizations, at national and international level ". He also acknowledged that these awards are a good incentive to continue deepening the improvements in these issues. "Achieving the best standards in accountability, transparency and probity is a duty that Codelco has with all Chileans and Chileans, and that is what corporate governance has promoted," he emphasized.
For his part, the executive director of Business Intelligence, Rodrigo Díaz, a consultant who develops the ranking since 2010, said that "it is not trivial for Codelco to obtain these awards for the second consecutive year. 2016, and are the standard for any public company in Chile. If any of them wants to learn how to work and publish the transparency issues should look at the Codelco page, "he said.
This award is in addition to the acknowledgments received during 2017 in this matter. In April, for the second consecutive year, Codelco achieved a 100% compliance in active transparency in the Transparency Council (CPLT) audit. Also, in the middle of the year, the Natural Resource Governance Institute and the "Ethical Boardroom Corporate Governance Award" recognized Codelco's worldwide efforts to raise standards of corporate governance and transparency.
