Spike in Brazilian iron ore, pellet exports to Mercosur
Brazilian iron ore pellet exports to fellow Mercosur nations jumped 65.7% year-on-year to US$248mn in January-October, foreign trade department Secex reported.
The country shipped 2.55Mt of iron ore pellets to Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay in the first 10 months of the year, up from 1.87Mt in the same period of 2017.
Meanwhile, aluminum oxide exports to the three nations were up 43.7% to US$160mn, despite volumes dipping to 332,443t from 342,218t.
Iron ore exports to the trade bloc increased 17.6% to US$118mn, with volumes dropping to 2.76Mt from 3.15Mt.
Refined copper wire shipments totaled US$103mn in the period, compared to US$85.8mn in January-October 2017, with volumes sliding to 11,897t from 13,480t.
Brazil's total exports to Mercosur in the period reached US$18.4bn, down from US$18.6bn in January-October 2017.
