MOPT secures US$200mn for municipal road program

Costa Rica's public works and transport ministry ( MOPT) has secured US$200mn for a program to improve road conditions on 1,500km of the country's municipal road network. MOPT will fund the initiative out of an US$850mn loan from IDB, the ministry said in a release. The funds will go towards paving, building bridges and improving road safety in various municipalities, for which studies are now under way. MOPT and German cooperation agency GIZ will be in charge of reviewing compliance with design requirements, terrain, environmental factors and the vulnerability of individual projects.
