Mexico City, December 15, 2022.- Under the commitment to continue connecting people's lives in a sustainable and inclusive way, Movistar launches its 5G offer starting today in Mexico City, Culiacán and Hermosillo, and at the close of year in Monterrey and Guadalajara, with an expansion plan to more than 30 cities by March 2023. Thus becoming the first operator in the country to open 5G for all prepaid, postpaid and business users in Mexico.
The power of Movistar 5G is available for all its recharge plans and packages. This benefit is included in recharges from $10 pesos that also have unlimited WhatsApp and FreeFire. It is also available in all current postpaid Plans, the new GigaMove Plans, the IlimiDATOS Plan, business plans and Movistar Libre. With this, any user will be able to enjoy the advantages of 5G, and current customers will not have to make any changes to their contract or pay additional amounts.
Until now, in the country the offer of services for the 5G network was limited to users with rate plans with minimum consumption of $499 pesos, leaving low-income and prepaid customers without access to this technology, corresponding to 8 out of 10 users in Mexico. Movistar 5G is available in postpaid plans from $235 pesos and business plans from $199 pesos.
“We are launching an offer for both private customers and companies, betting on the multitude of cross-cutting, direct and indirect benefits that 5G brings. Giving prepaid users the opportunity to connect to new technologies and postpaid and business users to do so in a more accessible way fills us with pride. For 21 years, we have continuously worked to innovate and present disruptive offers that empower users, thus democratizing next-generation mobile services under an inclusive vision, putting people at the center and allowing them to take the best of technology. This launch reaffirms the company's commitment to promote the digitization of the country," said Camilo Aya, president and CEO of Telefónica Movistar México.
Users who have 5G Ready Smartphones will connect automatically or if they have a 5G Capable one, it will only be necessary to update their operating system to the latest version. Likewise, Movistar makes available to its customers a variety of 5G-compatible equipment, unlocked and with financing options. This portfolio will be expanded together with the largest terminal manufacturers.
Movistar 5G is available to companies, betting on the multitude of cross-cutting, direct and indirect benefits that 5G brings to key sectors such as transport, tourism, energy, the automotive industry or health, thus accelerating the digitization of SMEs.
With the launch of 5G, Telefónica Movistar consolidates its innovative and disruptive long-term strategy, as well as its commitment to Mexico to continue promoting economic and social development in an inclusive and sustainable manner without leaving anyone behind.
