New director takes office at Brazil’s electric power watchdog

The special advisor on regulatory affairs at Brazil’s mines and energy ministry MME, Agnes da Costa (pictured), has taken office as a director of Aneel, the press office of the local electric power regulator reported. 

An economist, Costa has a master's degree in energy from São Paulo state’s university USP and a doctorate in integrated water resource management, global governance and sustainable development from the Berlin technical university (TU-Berlin). 

She is currently a member of the oil and gas state-run firm Petrobras’ auditing board and was part of the boards of Eletrobras and the UHE Belo Monte hydro plant between 2015 and 2019. 

Her term as director of Aneel is scheduled to end on August 13, 2027. 

The other directors of the electricity regulator are Ricardo Tilli, whose term began last May and will last until May 25 of 2025, and Fernando Mosna (August 2022-August 13, 2026). 

Aneel’s general director is Hélvio Guerra, who is now in his second term, which began last May and will run through May 24, 2024.
