Nokia considers Tierra del Fuego for new factory

Finnish equipment supplier Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is evaluating whether to build a production plant in Argentina's Tierra del Fuego province, local newspaper Perfil quoted Nokia VP for Latin America Olivier Puech as saying. According to the executive the final decision will depend on different issues such as costs and logistics. In order to start manufacturing mobile telephones in Tierra del Fuego, Nokia must first ask for a license. Nokia already has two factories in Latin America, one in Brazil and one in Mexico. "Latin America is one of the most important growth markets in the mobile communications industry and Nokia's aim is to continuously expand its presence and leadership in the region's markets," Nokia's Latin America senior VP for customer and market operations Maurizio Angelone recently said in a statement. Nokia has nearly 4,500 employees in Latin America and has operations in 11 countries.
