NTT Data, the IT services subsidiary of Japanese group NTT, has opened its first Latin American development center in the Brazilian city of Curitiba, Parana state, local press reported. The investment is part of the firm's strategy to expand its Latin American operations. NTT Data aims to invest US$1bn in the coming years, according to the reports. NTT Data launched operations in Brazil a year ago, through the acquisition of Italian company Value Team, which had a staff of 60 and annual revenues of US$60mn, the reports said. Earlier this year, NTT Data also acquired Total Systems, focused on the financial segment, with a staff of 200. After one year of operations, the company has a customer base of approximately 50 firms in Brazil and employs 800 people. However, NTT Data aims to double its current staff within the next two years. According to NTT Brazil head Angelo Mazzochi, the most active verticals for the company are telecoms, manufacturing and financing. NTT Data has field offices in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
