New oil strike offshore Brazil
Brazilian oil giant Petrobras provided more details of a new oil strike off the country's southeast coast
According to the state-run company, the exploration well in the Marlim field encountered a 196m oil column – the best result ever obtained in the Campos basin's pre-salt layer.
"We are now initiating the well tests, but we can say in advance this discovery has excellent potential due to the existing production and flow infrastructure in the region", Petrobras' exploration and production director Solange Guedes said during the company's financial results presentation.
The Marlim complex has a total of nine platforms operating. The project is currently going through a revitalization program aiming to reduce the reservoir's natural output decline.
