Aligned in a shared vision, the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) and The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) signed a memorandum of understanding that provides a framework for collaboration and the development of joint activities to support the energy transition sustainability and the eradication of energy poverty.
OLADE and GEAPP agreed to coordinate actions on issues such as the decarbonization of the sector, the diversification of the energy matrix through decentralized renewable technologies. Particular focus will be on solar and wind power, regional integration, infrastructure modernization and efforts to reduce technical and non-technical losses, last mile electrification.
The emphasis of the topics will be on contributing to the acceleration of sustainable, fair and universal energy transitions in the region.
This cooperation will include the dissemination of knowledge through collaborating on reports, trainings and seminars. Other objectives are to strengthen the capacities related to the implementation and execution of projects for regional governments, as well as to promote dialogue on policies, business and finance linked to the regional energy sector.
The agreement states that the entities share an interest in taking urgent and transformative actions to combat climate change by accelerating the transition to clean energy.
The Memorandum was signed between the executive secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco, and the director of GEAPP for Latin America and the Caribbean, Isabel Beltrán.
GEAPP is a new multi-partner platform committed to alleviating poverty by providing access to clean and reliable energy, and accelerating equitable energy transitions. This platform was launched at the 2021 United Nations Climate Summit COP26 by the Rockefeller Foundation, together with the IKEA Foundation, The Bezos Earth Fund and other partners.
