Brazilian pellet maker Samarco Mineração has signed a contract with Finnish metals and mining solutions company Outotec for the turnkey delivery of the world's largest iron ore pelletizing plant. The contract value is approximately 200mn euros (US$290mn), which includes 100mn euros in local purchases made on behalf of the client, Outotec said in a release. About 90% of the services and supplies for the project will be from Brazil. The new plant will be installed at Samarco's iron ore port in Ponta Ubú in Espírito Santo state. Once operational in late 2013, the plant will treat 9.25Mt/y on an 816m2 traveling grate indurating machine. Samarco is a 50:50 JV between Brazilian miner Vale (NYSE: VALE) and multinational resource group BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP).
