Peru approves climate change adaptation plan

Peru’s environment ministry (Minam) has approved an adaptation plan (NAP) to complement the climate change strategy, citing “the particular vulnerability of our ecosystems.”

The framework sets a climate outlook to facilitate planning for public and private investments, and expand the scope of natural disaster risk management “to include new concepts that are directly related with climate change and its incidence on risk levels,” a decree issued in the official gazette said.

It also establishes measurements for losses attributed to climate change that will be monitored every five years.

The plan has the objective to “position Peru as a leading country in the region on climate action, through a series of assets and tools that allow for an informed debate among all actors.”
