Peru's NCRE push prompts need to determine capacity
Peru's power generation park in 2018 is expected to increase by approximately 600MW, of which around half will be non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE).
The NCRE contributions will come from the Rubí (145MW) and Intipampa (40MW) solar parks, and the Wayra I (126MW) wind farm, according to grid administrator COES.
Installed capacity in September totaled 12,587MW, the bulk of which was thermo (58.6%) followed by hydro (38.7%), wind (1.93%) and solar (0.76%).
With next year's planned NCRE capacity jump and other solar and wind plants due online in the near future, authorities have secured World Bank technical assistance to help determine the impact of increasing NCRE penetration on the country's grid.
The multilateral is accepting bids through October 30 for a 120-day contract to estimate maximum penetration rates in 2022 and 2030, determine necessary grid upgrades, and recommend improvements to existing regulatory and operational procedures, among other work, according to reference terms.
The winner will work with COES and the energy and mines ministry.
In 2015, COES released results of a study of maximum NCRE capacity to be installed on the national SEIN grid.
