Brazil outlines thermo rules for A-5 power auction

Thermoelectric operators must complete a technical qualification process to participate in Brazil's A-1 auction from existing plants in December, the mining and energy ministry (MME) said on Friday.

The deadline for generators to submit necessary documents is October 31, according to the website of federal energy planning company EPE.

Energy from biomass-fired thermoelectric plants will be sold on the regulated market by availability, with contracts ending in December 2017.

All other sources will be negotiated by quantity, with supply terms ending in December 2017 or December 2019.

Details of the December 5 round and ceiling prices for each energy source will be published at least 15 days before the auction, according to the ministry.
