Brazil's Triunfo narrows Q2 net loss
Brazilian infrastructure company Triunfo Participações e Investimento saw its net loss narrowing in the second quarter, as a reduction of costs helped to compensate for a revenue decline.
The company posted a net loss of 40.6mn reais (US$10.9mn) for the quarter, compared with a loss of 446mn reais in the year-ago period.
Triunfo's operational costs fell 26.3% in the period to 139mn reais, while its debt service costs contracted 23.4% to 78mn reais, which partly offset a drop in revenues.
Triunfo's net revenue totaled 257mn reais in the second quarter, down 25% from the year-ago period.
The company saw a slight reduction of traffic on its five highway concessions in the first half of the year, mainly due to a 10-day nationwide truckers' strike in May. The strike to protest a fuel price rise affected various highways and concessionaires, and even disrupted fuel supply in major cities.
In addition, the company does no longer account for port operations, because they were sold recently.
NEW CFO
Triunfo's board named Ana Cristina Solheid da Costa de Carvalho as new chief financial and investor relations officer.
At the end of February, Sandro Antônio de Lima temporarily left the post, after prosecutors and federal police launched a massive investigation, targeting public officials and companies suspected of money laundering, criminal association and embezzlement, and defrauding the federal road concession authority in Paraná.
