Thursday, October 9, 2014

Brazil's transport ministry has approved studies prepared by local tollroad operator CCR for Rio de Janeiro state's Rio-Niterói bridge concession on federal highway BR-101.

After expressing interest earlier this year, the company prepared studies for the concession. CCR is being paid 2.9mn reais (US$1.21mn), the country's official gazette reported.

Transport agency ANTT will now schedule a public hearing to present the studies. Once all doubts are addressed, a tender for the public-private partnership will be launched.

CCR currently holds the concession contract along the stretch until May 2015. The company tried extending the concession in exchange for new civil works, but its request was denied.

The highway operator is also working toward extending another one of its contracts along the Presidente Dutra highway linking the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Visit here for more CCR plans.
