In Brief: Brazil's Padtec activates underwater fiber in Amazon
Brazilian fiber optic systems company Padtec has activated 530km of underwater fiber optics as part of a new stretch of the Amazônia Conectada project, led by the country's defense ministry.
Padtec provided DWDM optical systems with 100 Gbps multi-channel transmission, with long-distance capacity. The company said it will light up a total of 3,600km of subfluvial optical networks as part of the initiative.
Amazônia Conectada was announced in July 2015 and has the goal of laying 9,000km of fiber optic cables through river beds in the Amazon basin, benefitting 52 localities and 7.5mn people in the region.
