The North American Development Bank (NADB) approved a loan of 38mn pesos (US$2mn) to the Lorean Energy Group to develop the second stage of its biomass conversion plant in a landfill in the Mexican state of Coahuila.
The project in Saltillo city captures methane gas form the landfill to generate up to 1.7MW of electric energy. The plant began first phase operations late last year, and second phase construction wrapped up earlier this year.
The Saltillo municipal government awarded the design, construction and operation contract to Lorean Energy Group in 2011 to cover 45% of the city's electricity needs.
