Paraguay to award US$8bn in projects by 2018

Paraguay plans to award US$8bn mostly in transport infrastructure projects in the next four years, according to public works ministry MOPC.

Some projects will be subjected to the country's public-private partnership (PPP) law, including improvements works on highways No. 2, 7, 1 and 6, construction of highway No. 9 (Transchaco), the upgrade of the Silvio Pettirossi international airport and railroad and water treatment works.

MOPC head Ramón Jiménez said, "This is the right moment to invest in Paraguay".

The country is currently executing 154 infrastructure projects totaling a record of US$600mn for 2014, and plants to put another US$650mn in infra projects out to tender in 2015.

The World Economic Forum ranked Paraguay 133 among 144 countries in road infrastructure quality, having only 9% of its roads paved.
